We were recently (Sept 25 – Oct 2, 2010) doing a 100 mile backpack on the AT from Daleville VA to the Tye River on Route 56 near Montebello VA. We had heard there was a brand new AT Shelter actually in the town of Glasgow Virginia so we stopped by to get some photos since we couldn’t find any prior to our trip. It is not quite like the other AT Shelters as it has 3 sides covered with heavy duty tarp and it is on a concrete slab, plenty of room to put up tents if needed nearby. I hope it is a work in progress and maybe it will have permanent sides in the near future. This was a Boy Scout Eagle project and has to be one of the only shelters with a shower!! There is no privy but across the road is a ball-field with a public bathroom. The shelter is located directly across the road from the Glasgow Grocery Express and just behind a closed white motel. Hopefully this information and photos will be useful for 2011 AT Thru-Hikers.

PS: It decided to be Virginia Monsoon Season during our backpack, so due to the weather and some feet problems we made it only to Route 60 near Buena Vista VA, about 80 miles. We hope to finish the last section soon.
